Hachidori 3.3.5 Now Released

October 24, 2021 By malupdaterosxdev

Hachidori 3.3.5 is now out. This release fixes the toolbar icons under macOS Monterey as they appear way too big compared to previous versions of macOS, causing some icons not to be shown.

In addition, there is now a new directory whitelist option under Exceptions settings. With this option enabled, it won’t detect any files outside the directories specified by the user.

To install this update, check for updates.

New Features

  • Add directory whitelist option
  • Added support links to allow users to report issues easily

Bug Fixes and Enhancements

  • Fixed toolbar icons under macOS Monterey
  • Preferences icons now uses SF Symbols in macOS Big Sur or later.

Later this week, we will most likely be releasing Shukofukurou for macOS 3.6. Note that 3.6 will require macOS Big Sur, but 3.5.x will be supported outside the App Store in a special version called Shukofukurou Legacy.

You can discuss this release on our forums.

macOS Monterey Support

I managed to upgrade my development machine (Mac mini M1) to macOS Monterey Beta 8 and it seems that our apps work without any compatibility issues, besides the toolbar icons. These will be fixed in an upcoming release.

MAL Updater OS X New Support Community

October 3, 2021 By malupdaterosxdev

We have decided that Github may not be the best place for users to report bugs. This is because our users are mostly regular users and not developers. Also, having everything in one place makes my job easier to fix new issues rather than managing several separate issue trackers.

With that, we have moved the issue to our own support forums. Each app will have it’s own bug tracker. When filing a issue, they will now have their own fields that the user needs to fill out. This will give me enough information to find the bug or resolve a question the user may have. You may also attach crash logs and screenshots, but not videos. Videos take too much space and needs to be uploaded elsewhere.

Note that using the support forums require registering an account or logging in using a Github account. More logon options will be added soon.

The support forums is located at https://support.malupdaterosx.moe

How to file an Issue

  1. Go to the respective issue tracker for the app you want to create an issue on (e.g. Shukofukurou for iOS, Shukofukurou for macOS, Hachidori). Feature requests do not belong in Issue tracker, they belong in Feature Requests. Also, you can attach any screenshots and crash logs to the bug report.
  2. Select a prefix, either Bug or Question. It will default to Bug.
  3. Describe the bug in the title and describe it further in the message box.

4. Now, describe how to reproduce the bug, specify the Operating System, OS version and App version. For Shukofukurou for iOS, you need to specify what device you have. All these fields are required.

5. Submit the bug report. When I fix the bug and you confirmed it, mark it as a solution to close the issue.

Note that Github issue trackers will be disabled now that the support forums now exist. We will be updating the links in our apps soon to reflect this.

Hachidori 3.3.4 Released

September 26, 2021 By malupdaterosxdev

It’s been a while since we released an update for Hachidori since March, but here we are now. Hachidori 3.3.4 is now released with some bug fixes. Namely, it has to do with the season detection as some titles weren’t being detected properly.

Also, Hachidori 3.3.4 fixes Funimation detection as they finally rolled out a new video player, which broke detection. Not that Funimation now requires Javascript for full functionality, which will require the “Allow JavaScript from Apple Events” option enabled in Safari and Chrome based browsers. In addition, Peacock TV stream detection support for anime titles only is now added.

This update is now available for users to download or update through the update feature. Also, Shukofukurou for iOS/iPadOS 2.2 Beta should hopefully be out later this week on TestFlight for active patrons. We had some trouble getting the app approved since AniList started requiring two factor authentication, thus causing login issues with the test account. The test account will now use MyAnimeList, so hopefully there shouldn’t be any more issues.

Shukofukurou for macOS 3.5.5 Released

August 29, 2021 By malupdaterosxdev

Yep, there has been a couple of oppsies, but that allowed us to also squash another bug involving Kitsu. Apparently, some titles do not have start/end publishing/air dates, causing the app to crash. This bug is noticeable on the iOS version, but nobody filed a bug report. Updates for the Mac and iOS version will be coming out shortly.

In addition, to make life easier in dealing with bugs and providing customer support, I will eventually create a support forum that will support all our apps based on Xenforo as it has a suggestions and bug reports module built in. The discussion and issues tabs will eventually be disabled on the Github repos in the future once the new forums are open. Also, I will be removing email customer support as all support related questions will be done on the forums. The support links will be updated once the support forums are set up this fall.
