macOS High Sierra Compatibility

June 5, 2017 By malupdaterosxdev

The first developer build of macOS 10.13 High Sierra is now out for developers. I have the chance to install the developer build and tested basic functionality. Here is the current compatibility for our applications

  • MAL Updater OS X – 100% works (stream detection/player detection and scrobbling) – Tested 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 Beta 3
  • Hachidori – 100% works (stream detection/player detection and scrobbling) – Tested 2.0 Beta 9
  • MAL Library – Most functionality does not work due to unacceptable content type error with AFNetworking. This bug does not happen in macOS Sierra or earlier – Tested 2.1  – Fixed with 2.1.1

MAL Library will be fixed to add High Sierra support soon. Note that High Sierra is in prerelease and future releases may break compatibility, which is unlikely. Please report any bugs if you are running macOS High Sierra.

MAL Updater OS X 2.3.5 Beta 3 is now released

June 4, 2017 By malupdaterosxdev

MAL Updater OS X 2.3.5 Beta 3 has been released for registered users on the beta update channel. This beta changes how detection is handled so it will only detect if the player application is running. It’s now possible to create dedicated rules for MPlayer OSX Extended, MPlayerX and SMPlayer with mplayer2 support. Also, MAL Updater OS X will now reset if you remove an account.

You can download the beta here. You must have a donation license or app store version registered before you can use the beta. Use the most recent stable build to register your copy of MAL Updater OS X today.

Hachidori 2.0 Beta 9 is now released

June 3, 2017 By malupdaterosxdev

Hachidori 2.0 Beta 9 is now released. We have finally implemented Kitsu’s new scoring system. Depending on your settings, you can use simple or advanced ratings for titles you scrobbled. This can be done by going to Update/Correct > Update Status.

Also, we made improvements to detection. It’s now a separate framework and it’s easy to specify new players. Please refer to supportedplayers.json to see how it’s implemented.

You can download Hachidori at the official website. For existing users, you can update to this version by checking for updates.

The change log is below.

New Features

  • Kitsu’s new rating system is now fully implemented with simple rating support
  • NicePlayer detection and improved player detection.
  • Ability to now ignore mplayer based players on a player basis (MPlayer OSX Extended, SMPlayerX, MPlayerX, etc)
  • Support for mplayer2 detection

Bug Fixes and Enhancements

  • Hachidori now resets it’s state when an account is removed (reset last scrobbled title and now playing)
  • Improved title recognition
  • MAL Sync now performs the sync asynchronously instead of freezing after scrobble.

Donation Licenses Available on Fastspring and App Store Pricing

May 31, 2017 By malupdaterosxdev

Now it’s possible to donate by buying a donation license on Fastspring. This allows me to deliver the license key instantly instead of having to  generate it manually. Fastspring is able to process payments from credit cards, Paypal and Amazon Payments. You can access the store here. Paypal donations and cryptocurrency payments remain available as alternatives. Please note that license generation is not automatic for these payment options besides Fastspring.

In addition, due to changes with App Store pricing the pricing for MAL Library will increase in some countries. This change is effective on May 31, 2017. If you want to purchase a full copy of MAL Library for $5, please purchase through Fastspring. The Mac App Store option is for those who don’t want to deal with license keys or prefer using the App Store.
